A high degree of virtualization refers to an organization in which a significant part of the units or the employees are spatially separated and operate in an asynchronous way. Special IT systems or other special means for coordination may be involved.

Examples are: distributed geographic teams in large organizations, or, small organizations working together. It can also be a network, which is coordinated in a more formal way.
